Organising the working week

Organising the week means giving each piece of work a time and a duration, written in advance. What sits in a slot gets done; what stays an intention moves to tomorrow, then to the day after. The habit takes ten minutes on Sunday evening, and it changes the whole week.

What this habit consists of

Organising the week means giving each piece of work a time and a duration, written in advance. What sits in a slot gets done; what stays an intention moves to tomorrow, then to the day after. The habit takes ten minutes on Sunday evening, and it changes the whole week.

  • Work spreads out instead of piling up the night before
  • Evenings become predictable, for the pupil and for the household
  • Quiet subjects finally get their slot
  • The pupil knows when they have finished, and stops
  • The evening before a test becomes an ordinary evening

The four steps

  1. 01

    Place the fixed points

Lessons, travel, meals, family duties. What cannot move goes first, otherwise the rest is fiction.

  2. 02

    Place the deadlines

Homework, announced tests, work to hand in. Each gets its slot, two days before the date.

  3. 03

    Add the short reviews

Fifteen minutes on a concept covered last week. That slot is what keeps memory alive.

  4. 04

    Keep some room

A week packed to the brim breaks at the first surprise. Two free slots keep the plan standing.

How the tutor installs it

The tutor has the week written with the pupil on Sunday, then rereads it with them on Wednesday: a plan gets corrected along the way, and that is what makes it workable. It counts the time actually worked, session by session, and compares it with the plan — the gap then shows up as data, not as reproach. After a few weeks the pupil writes their own week, and keeps to it because it is theirs.

Parents' questions

Do I have to check the plan every evening?

One read a week is enough, and it takes two minutes in the parent space: the time actually worked and the slots kept are both there. Daily checking moves responsibility onto you, whereas the whole point of the habit is the opposite — the pupil keeps the plan because they wrote it.
